~NEW~ This is a CELADONITE pocket/ palm stone. Shown next to a US quarter coin for size comparison. It has a mixture of soft greens, white, cream, and a touch of golden yellow. The patterns are very organic and moss-like. Very nice!
Celadonite is often found with other minerals, such as Stilbite or Apophyllite - or as inclusions in in quartz. It is in the mica group mineral: phyllosilicate, forming in parallel sheets of silicate tetrahedra. It's main components are potassium and iron, in oxidation states. At times hydrothermal alteration forms veins of celadonite in basaltic lavas. Celadonite is usually found as a replacement of ferromagnesian minerals, frequently pyroxenes. Common impurities found in it are manganese, calcium, and sodium.
It is found in a variety of places, including Madagascar, India and Washington State, USA; it is very soft - 2 on the Mohs scale.
It was first described in 1847 on Monte Baldo, near Verona, Italy. It is named named after the French "céladon" for "sea-green," which is it' most common color. It is one of 2 minerals (the other being Glauconite) used in making the pigment known as "Green Earth."
There may be some small organic spots from inclusions that were close to the surface as the stone was polished. ALL inclusions present come from 100% natural formations in the stone.
It measures just under 1 3/4" inches by 1 1/8" inches by just under 1/2" inch. Code-792
