This is an unusual piece of St. David Selenite - from the St. David, Arizona area. Recently, I have seen some people using the trade name "Golden Flame Selenite" for this material. This particular kind of Selenite only forms in this one area and is difficult to acquire as it requires a 5 mile ATV ride up into the hills, and then a long hike on foot. The sides of the seam have since collapsed. It was gathered especially for me by a geologist friend. It has areas with a high level of clarity plus interesting patterns/variations visible as well. Including some pretty shimmery areas and rainbows pressed in between the layers it formed in that become visible from different angles. Looks extra pretty in the sunlight! In fact, some people prefer to hang these in a window as a suncatcher.
Selenite is a soft, water soluble, stone so do NOT submerge it in liquid.

This variety of Selenite is only found around St. David, Arizona. Selenite is a name which is used to de-scribe different varieties of the mineral Gypsum. "Selenite" is most often used for the transparent variety, "Satin Spar" is used for the fibrous variety, and "Alabaster" for the fine-grained massive form. St. David Selenite naturally forms in very clear, thin, colored sheets or wands with golden, or root beer shades. Some of these have fascinating rainbow inclusions inside of them. Selenite is water soluble, so never submerge it in water or the physical structure of the stone can be compromised.
